Asymmetric PR 1400 Dicut wheel from DT Swiss with ceramic OXIC surface coating

The reduced-design PR 1400 OXIC wheels are at the forefront of aluminum road bike wheels! This means low weight, excellent handling, exceptional braking performance as well as quality and durability combined in a wheelset. The rims are wide, asymmetrical, light and thus provide an excellent balance between stiffness and weight. The ceramic OXIC surface coating gives your brakes unprecedented braking properties. In a tubeless setup, the bike gets more comfort and grip in addition to its athletic character.

The Oxic process

With the PR1400 Dicut OXiC wheels DT Swiss presents for the first time the new OXiC technology, which not only gives the wheels a noble, matt black finish, but also important performance features. The OXIC process refers to an electrochemical ceramic coating that makes the rim surfaces very hard and tough. The result is a noble, matt black finish which has excellent braking properties and at the same time reduces the abrasion on the rim to an absolute minimum.

The ceramic layer is produced in a manner similar to anodizing, namely in an electrolyte bath by applying an electrical voltage between the component as one electrode and the container as another electrode. The key difference between anodizing and OXiC is the millions of plasma discharges between the electrolyte bath and the rim, which exert high temperatures and pressures on the forming oxide layer. As a result, the forming oxide melts, tears and solidifies again. In this process, the amorphous (disordered) structure of the oxide changes to a crystalline (ordered) structure. That's why OXiC is so tough and resilient.

These spokes have two different diameters. The spoke is partially butted by cold forging. As a result, the diameter becomes smaller and thus enables a reduction in weight while at the same time improving the elongation values.

Tubeless ready rims are designed for use with tubeless kits and tires. They allow a correct fit of the tubeless rim tape and the tubeless tire.
