The legacy of the Zipp 404 as a symbol of speed goes back decades and its future is even better. With a height of 58mm, the 404 Firecrest Tubeless is ideal for road races, marathons, time trials, triathlons and tours in varied terrain. The inner width of the wheel set of 23mm is perfect for driving wider, tubeless tires with reduced air pressure.
404 Firecrest Tubeless for disc brakes
This is a key component of Total System Efficiency (TSE), an approach to increasing speed on constantly changing roads and driving conditions. TSE focuses in particular on overcoming specific speed barriers: wind resistance, gravity, rolling resistance and vibration losses. Zipp's ABLC Sawtooth technology uses an intricate dent pattern to improve aero efficiency.
The use of hookless (straight) rims by Zipp in the 404 Firecrest is an essential part of "Making You Faster". With hookless, the transition between tire and rim is more seamless and aerodynamic. Zipp's hookless rims have more efficient resin distribution, which means lighter and stronger wheels.
An outdoor test commissioned by Zipp showed the advantages of the Zipp TSE in practice. With the new 404 Firecrest with 25 mm tires, a complete system of rider and bike weighing 85 kg requires 286 watts to maintain a speed of 40 km / h. This is a saving of 4 watts compared to the previous model, the 404 Firecrest.

The combination of a wider, tubeless tire, lower tire pressure, a wider rim profile optimized for the tire interface and a new rim laminate ensures more efficient driving behavior.
