The Shimano CN-HG901 chain is designed for 11-speed switching. It has asymmetric tabs and is therefore mountable in directional direction. The SIL-TEC coating minimizes friction and reduces dirt adhesion.

Dyna-SYS11
The real benefit of the 11-speed drive is that the entire translation bandwidth is available without giving up your usual rhythm. Dyna-Sys11 provides an optimal rhythm both in the level and in the ascent with "Rhythm Step" gears in the most used range. Drive efficiency is a key performance indicator for the powertrain. Dyna-Sys11 means more speed with the same effort.
SIL-TEC
SIL-TEC is Shimano's new, extremely low-friction surface treatment. SIL-TEC is a superior, modern coating process that improves system performance through the use of embedded fluorine particles. SIL-TEC products run smoother and show less wear under all conditions.
Directional link chain
The chain has an asymmetrical design. When mounting, therefore, the direction of rotation must be observed. The specially shaped tabs optimize engagement on the pinion and result in even cleaner shifting even under load. To save weight, these chains have recesses on the inner plates and hollow rivet pins (CN-HG901-11 only).
