Schwalbe bicycle tubes are usually made of butyl rubber. Butyl is a very elastic and at the same time airtight synthetic rubber. Before extrusion, the base material is pressed through a total of seven filters under enormous pressure. All hoses are placed in a mold and inflated for vulcanization. This is the only way to ensure uniform wall thicknesses and high air retention. All finished tubes are inflated and stored for at least 24 hours to test for air retention. Each hose is then carefully checked individually via visual inspection. The Schwalbe tube has been valued by German bicycle dealers for its high reliability for many years. Every Schwalbe tube is 100 percent recyclable. Schwalbe can use the recycled butyl rubber in the production of new tubes without any loss of quality. That's why every new Schwalbe standard tube already consists of around 20 percent recycled raw materials. Compared to producing the same amount of new butyl, only a fifth of the energy is used.
