Maximum insulation and moisture management for cold rides
The Polartec® Alpha® material ensures excellent insulation - soft, elastic and light. A few years ago, Castelli thought it would be great for base layers, but it felt rather damp and clammy on the skin. However, when they were looking for more thermal protection for their gravel tours in sub-zero temperatures, they tried out the Alpha® prototypes as a second layer over a Prosecco base layer - and thus came up with the perfect combination for rides in the cold. Castelli has worked on the details and perfected this second layer for cold days. They have provided it with a half-length zipper so that it doesn't add too much bulk to the tummy area. And they placed the zipper slightly off-center to avoid multiple zippers meeting at the neck. Castelli has kept the fit close to the body, so you have the choice of tucking them into the tights or wearing them over the top. Castelli has also found that it works great over a Flanders, Bandito, Miracolo or Seamless base layer.
